Democracy project

Youth in Action is the new EU Programme in the field of youth lasting from 2007 until 2013 with a total budget of 885 million euros. It is the successor of the YOUTH Programme (2000-2006). Youth in Action is called “Aktiv ungdom” in Norwegian. Democracy project is an important part of Youth in Action programme.

A number of international reports show that the world is facing dramatic climate changes. A visible consequence of this is that unique archaeological sites are discovered due to ice melting and glacial retreat. Climate change and global warming are abstract concepts that can be difficult to grasp, in particular for children and youth. More arenas must be developed to put focus on and create deeper understanding of this topic. Oppland county authority, Norway, has started a project that aim at establishing a climate park where you can physically see and perceive climate changes and the relation between nature and culture in a long term perspective. The most important target group for the Klimapark 2469 (Climate park 2469) project is children and youth. The Klimapark will contribute to creating a new understanding of climate and environmental changes.

In this democracy project 20 Norwegian and Polish young people acted as a reference group for the Klimapark project, and contributed to the plan from the youth’s perspective. The group met twice in Jotunheimen and once in Szczecin (Poland).
