Solheim will participate in the launch of Klimapark2469

The Minister of the Environment of Norway, Erik Solheim, will participate in the national launch of Klimapark2469 on Tuesday, the 13th of April.


Erik Solheim has earlier engaged himself in the Klimapark project, and visited the Youth Climate Camp summer 2009. Together with young people from Norway, Poland, Lithuania and Canada, the Minister signed the first measurements in the area where the Klimapark is planned to be established.

Here are his words:

The Minister signalized that he wished to create a dialogue about the future of the Klimapark2469.

Klimapark2469 and archaeological finds

 

The next milestone is launching the results from the preliminary project for the Klimapark. The Ministry of the Environment of Norway will be represented on the event both by the Minister and his political secretary. The official launch of the Klimapark2469 will take place in Forskningsparken (Research Park) on Blindern in Oslo.

Besides the presentation of all the plans for Klimapark2469, Erik Solheim will also get a Scientific and Development Report on archaeological finds and ice patches. The numerous finds on Juvplateau near Galdhøpiggen require a special national program that will provide security to the artifacts.

Launchtime: Tuesday, the 13th of April 2010, 12.00 – 13.30

Place: CIENS-building in Forskningsparken (Scientific Park) on Blindern, Oslo.

• County Mayor Audun Tron gives a short introduction and welcomes everybody.

• Speech by the Minister of the Environment Erik Solheim

• Last news about climate changes in the alpine areas of Norway – with a special focus on Juvplateau in Jotunheimen National Park. Collective presentation about climate research from Bjerknes Center, Meteorological Institute, UNI, NVE by Prof. Atle Nesje (Bjerknes Center). Comments from Director of Climate Department at Meteorological Institute – Eirik Førland.

• Presentation of Scientific and Development Report (FoU) on archaeological finds and ice patches. Presented by Dr. Lars Pilø, archaeologist from Oppland County Municipality. The prior challenges as for how to ensure the archaeological finds melting out of the ice in the years to come, is the main topic of the presentation.

• Short synopsis of the unique archaeological materials. The finds will be displayed. By Prof. Brit Soli (Cultural and Historical Museum).

• Klimapark2469: Presentation of ideas and plans by Project Manager Espen Finstad.
